An editorial information system for news planning

Accso redesigned plan.it, the planning and communication platform for programs on the public broadcaster ZDF.

As one of Germany's leading public television channels, ZDF reaches around 15% of viewers, making it the most popular TV station (Statista 2024). The modernized plan.it information system is used to efficiently plan ZDF's journalistic offerings – from news formats and reports to sports and Olympic coverage. The system is used by up to 2,000 users every day.

Replacement of the old software

In order to overcome the technical limitations of the existing solution, ZDF decided to develop a new, flexible, and expandable customized solution based on modern technologies.

plan.it combines thematic offerings from studios and specialist editorial teams, planning for TV, online, and social media formats, and all relevant information for the implementation of publication projects—from the planning phase to day-to-day business. The editorial team and parts of the program management—from editorial and production to studios and headquarters—work with plan.it.

Transparent and simple content planning

With the customized development of the new information system, ZDF has taken control of the technological management and integration into the existing system landscape into its own hands. The modern, .NET-based architecture of the solution not only enables the continuous further development of plan.it, but also creates a future-proof basis for the flexible connection of additional clients—such as mobile applications.
