Development and modernization of the Parcel Navigator App for DPD Germany
For several years, we have supported DPD Germany – the German subsidiary of GEOPOST – in various software architecture domains. Since 2020, we have been working intensively on the further development of the Parcel Navigator App for iOS and Google Android platforms – the result were awarded by the
German App Award in 2024. Users can find the app in their usual app stores.
Further development and optimization of the DPD Parcel Navigator App
The aim of the project was to improve the quality of the application and to further develop it accordingly. The following aspects were taken into account:
- Stabilization and continuous improvement of software quality to enhance the user experience.
- Refactoring the architecture to ensure maintainability and adaptability, particularly for the evolving requirements of Apple and Google platforms.
- Optimization of the development and release processes for the apps.
These efforts contributed to the finished product winning the German App Award 2024 and, according to the survey, being one of the most popular mobile applications in Germany.
An excellent product as a result of the collaboration
A stable and robust architecture was established for the new and ongoing development of the DPD App. This architecture enabled the implementation of new functions and platform-specific concepts. This led to:
- a reduction of more than 95% in app errors and crashes
- a smaller app size, which, among other things, contributes to a better UX (user experience)
- shorter release cycles for further development
- less dependency on third-party providers, resulting in more stability and lower license costs
- new, innovative features for users, and thus an improved UX
All these aspects contributed to the finished product winning the German App Award 2024 and, according to the survey, being one of the most popular mobile applications in Germany.
Success through close cooperation with the DPD product team
With a team of four – consisting of software engineers, architects and project managers – Accso supervised the project. In doing so, we worked closely with the project managers and the DPD QA-team. The joint development is based on a process model similar to a Scrum, which shortened release cycles and accelerated the achievement of results.
As a digital partner, we also provided advisory services to DPD on their other software architecture issues in projects that go beyond app development. We supported the conceptual design of solution architectures for the modernization of DPD's core systems and advised the development teams of data-intensive applications.
We are very pleased about this long-term and cooperative partnership and are proud of the jointly developed solutions, which have been positively received by users and contribute to the success of DPD Germany.
