A booking system for corona vaccinations
To mitigate the health effects of the global corona pandemic, rapid vaccination of the population became critical once the vaccines were delivered. This presented doctors and pharmacists with the immense challenge of immunizing hundreds of thousands of individuals daily, coordinating each vaccination with precision, and ensuring accurate certification for every vaccinated patient. Both large-scale and smaller vaccination centers needed to handle the overwhelming demand promptly and reliably.
The urgent need inspired the digitalization experts at Merkando to create a software prototype for the vaccination centers: the Impfomizer. This online booking system for vaccinations facilitates patients in locating a nearby vaccination center and scheduling their appointments efficiently.
The First German Software for Paperless Vaccination Planning
The development and implementation of the software prototype was carried out in collaboration with IT and digitalization specialists from Accso. The partnership proved successful: together, Accso and Merkando created a market-ready vaccination planning system.
The solution not only included core functionalities like appointment booking but also extended to environmental processes such as invoicing and certificate downloads. It was built on a robust architecture with a secure design, all while delivering a sophisticated and modern user interface.
From concept to deployment, the Accso team, led by Dr. Roland Axelsson assisted Merkando and its Managing Director Dr. Björn Schittenhelm to implement and further develop the sophisticated software.
The collaboration resulted in a version of the "Impfomizer" which digitally handles all important processes from patient registration to vaccination certificate management.
In future, the "Impfomizer" will support advanced features, including location and vaccine-specific searches for vaccination centers and the planning of mass vaccination campaigns for all types of vaccines.

The successful project collaboration and the resulting “Impfomizer” were primarily shaped by the combined expertise of Accso and Merkando. The collaborative partnership under the leadership of Dr. Axelsson (Accso) on the implementation side and Michael Bock (Merkando) the project thrived through close feedback cycles, an agile mixed team, and deep technical expertise.
This close collaboration ensured the swift delivery of a powerful, user-friendly product that exceeded expectations – a testament to the synergy of expertise and teamwork.
The entire project benefited from the expertise of all persons involved. Merkando with the technical know-how from the direct insight into the vaccination processes from the pandemic, as well as the in-depth knowledge of the requirements of all stakeholders. And Accso with a strong, customized team of technical specialists from all required areas: cloud, frontend and architecture.
